Course of the week
This weeks course of the week comes from Cornwall Council and ran from 17-20 October 2011.
In the photo we have in the back row left to right, Janet Hodgkinson from Acorns School, Sarah Jose from Curnow School, Jonathan Astin from Nancealvern School and Gareth Morcombe from Somerset County Council and in the front row left to right we have Karen Hardy, Francis Strickland and Heidi Bright all from the host DoubleTrees School. We also had two escapees from the photo, Sharon Hines-Randle from Doubletrees Short Breaks and Sandy Chenori from Oakland Parks School.

This weeks’ Course of the Week came from Blackfriars School in Staffordshire and ran from 4th – 8th July 2011. We had a number of people from different schools taking part which made for an interesting course.

This weeks’ Course of The Week took place from 11th – 15th July 2011 at Harewood House in Darlington. It was held for Darlington Borough Council and the candidates came from a number of different establishments within the Council.
From left to right we have Edwina Stansbie (from Beaumont Hill School), Lorraine Cook (from Harewood House), Donna Williams (from Harewood House), Dixon Kennedy (from the Stephenson Centre) and last but not least Claire Cockfield (from Springfield School). The candidates are pictured with various ‘helpers’ which our trainer Janet uses for sessions, we are also told they keep her company at night during Hotel stays !
This weeks Course of the Week was held over in Northern Ireland for the North Eastern Education & Library Board. It ran from 13th – 17th June. This weeks Course of the Week was held at Cherrytrees Childrens Hospice in Surrey. The course was delivered by our very own Janet Hunt and it took place from 6th – 10th June 2011. The Handling People with Special Needs course is designed for those people dealing with children with physical special needs and learning difficulties, at the end of the course each successful candidate is then able to deliver training direct to front line staff within their own organisation.

This weeks Course of the Week was held at Wythenshawe Hospital in Manchester. It took place on 2nd & 3rd June and was delivered by Jan Crawford.

The 4 participants were all from Sodexo and the course delivered was Handling for Porters - pictured from left to right we have Mark Devereaux, our trainer Jan, Mike Ault, Andy Lalley and Alan Baker - judging by the smiles it looks like the course went well !
This weeks Course of the Week was delivered up in Aberdeenshire for Simeon (Care for the Elderly). The 3 day Load Management Theory & Client Handling Techniques course took place from 23rd - 25th May.

This was a conversion course to the Centaur course Handling People with Special Needs, for people who had previously been trained by another training company, (E - - E) and ran from 17th -19th May 2011. This is the first of two courses we will be running for the schools in Leicestershire, watch this space!

This weeks ‘Course of the Week’ was held at Bassetlaw Primary Care Trust from 18th – 20th April. The 3 day Load Management Theory & Client Handling Techniques course was delivered by Jan Crawford.
In the 1st picture it looks like the candidates made the most of the Spring sunshine, as we all know, “Risk Assessments in the sun can make learning lots of fun” apparently.. In the 2nd photo from left to right across the back we have, Andy Turton, Derek Howland, Amy Cantrell and Vic Scamans, across the front we have Michelle Godfrey and Kathy Ryan. A very enjoyable course all round !!!
This weeks ‘Course of The Week’ took place at Uplands School in Swindon from 4th – 8th April 2011. The 5 day Handling People with Special Needs course had a mixture of candidates on it from different areas.

This weeks ‘Course of The Week’ was held at The Meadows School which is part of Sandwell Local Education Authority. The course was delivered from 21st – 25th March 2011 by our trainer Janet Hunt.
It’s not the first time the Authority has had individuals trained on this Handling People with Special Needs course, in fact by our reckoning they must be into their 4th of 5th course ! On this occasion we had people attending from a wide range of areas, pictured from left to right (at the back) we have Tracey Dixon from Fort Royal Community Primary School in Worcester, Heather Wignell from Astley Park School in Chorley, Lancashire, Lorraine Cowen (holding Darcy) from the host school (Meadows), Yvette Field from Astley Park School, Jessica Grosvenor from Freelance Training & Consultancy in Wolverhampton and last but not least at the very front (holding Kate) we have Tracey Devlin also from Astley Park School.
This week’s course of the week comes from the Hawthorn Resource Centre in Staffordshire, part of Staffordshire County Council. The course ran from 7th – 11th March 2011 and was delivered once again by Janet Hunt. The 5 day Handling People with Special Needs ‘Trainers’ course takes a group of individuals through an intensive but enjoyable programme which ultimately allows them to deliver training directly to others.

Another new group of trainers join the ranks of Dumfries & Galloway Council’s education department on this course held from 14th – 17th February 2011. Centaur has worked with the council helping to set up and support a small regiment of trainers working with children with special physical special needs both in special and mainstream school.

This weeks course of the week is another course for our long running clients Marie Curie Cancer Care. It was held at the Marie Curie Centre in Wooton from 15-16 February 2011 and was a Handling for Administration Course for the Load Only Keytrainers.

This weeks ‘Course of the Week’ was held over in Coleraine, County Derry in Northern Ireland. The Handling People with Special Needs course has now been delivered over here for a number of years and its popularity is increasing enormously. This time it was delivered for the nice folk within the North East Education & Library Board.
The course took place from 7th – 11th February 2011 and we had the full quota of 8 candidates who thoroughly enjoyed it despite some of them being slightly apprehensive to start with. Aunty Janet soon put them all at ease and I think it paid off judging by their faces ! Pictured from left to right top row first we have Marie Howie, Jill Ravey, Roisin Doherty & Janet Blair. On the bottom row we have Tracey Shaw, Josie Rainey, Mary McKendry and last but by no means least we have Lee Ann Wilson.
This weeks Course of the Week took place in Gateshead from 24th – 28th January 2011 for Gateshead Council. This is the 1st time we have delivered a course for the Council and we hope it is the first of many ! The Handling People with Special Needs course was delivered once again by Janet Hunt and we reckon there are now schools in 100+ Local Education Authorities who have had individuals trained on this programme.
The course brought comments such as “Insightful, interesting and balanced” Janet was described as “approachable and very supportive”. The group (as described by Janet) was “A pleasure to work with”. For this weeks course of the week we were back with Marie Curie Cancer Care again for another Load Management Theory and Client Handling Techniques Masterclass giving them six new patient handling keytrainers. The course was held at the Marie Curie Centre in Belfast from the 19th January 2011 until 21st January 2011.

This weeks ‘Course of the Week’ came from the Brothers of Charity Services in Galashiels, the organisation were very helpful in allowing us to use their premises to host the course. The 3 day Load Management Theory & Client Handling Techniques programme was held from 10th – 12th January 2011.
