This week’s ‘Course of the Week’ was a Handling People with Special Needs (Education) programme held at Uplands School in Swindon. The course ran from 1st – 5th December 2008 and was delivered by Debbie Palfrey. This weeks ‘Course of the Week’ came from The Orchard School in Oldbury, West Midlands. The Handling People with Special Needs (Education) 5 day programme took place from 24th – 28th November 2008. The candidates had a lot of fun during the week - largely due the fact that 3 of the participants were called ‘Jan’ and our trainer is a ‘Janet’ !

This weeks ‘Course of the Week’ took place from 20th – 24th October. The 5 day Load Management Theory & Client Handling Techniques course was held for 6 candidates all from Bassetlaw Primary Care Trust in Nottingham. All candidates and our trainer (Pam Sherliker) thoroughly enjoyed the week which seemed to be evident from the first photograph ! From left to right across the back we have Sam Clarke, Angie Slaney, Rachel Bussey & Chris White whilst at the front we have Kevin Bradley & Jean Clarke

This weeks’ ‘Course of the Week’ went ahead from 20th – 24th October 2008. It took place at Green Fold School in Bolton. Once the candidates had successfully passed the Handling People with Special Needs (Education) programme it enabled them to deliver training directly to staff within their own school(s). The participants from left to right are; Tracy Sutton, Catherine Brooks and Elizabeth Templeman.

This ‘Course of the Week’ was held at Sheringham Woodfield School in Norfolk. The course took place from 13th – 17th October 2008. Pictured are Clive Catterall from BREAK and Billy Henderson from Sheringham Woodfields School. Thanks must go to the school who helped us with an additional ‘body’ for the 5 days due to unforeseen circumstances.

These were pictures taken in Middlesex at Mandeville School which is a brand new school building. It only opened on the 1st Sept 08 and theory training was held 2nd – 4th September for every member of staff.
This weeks Course of the Week took place at Evergreen Primary School in Bishop Auckland, County Durham. We had 6 candidates who attended the Handling People with Special Needs (Education) course; from left to right we have Julie Goode, Deborah Byrom, Kath Parker, Eileen Myles, Clare Taylor and Dawn Leak. The course took place from 29th September – 3rd October and was well received.


The third moving and handling trainers course for York City Council’s LEA was delivered by Pam Sherliker on the 8th – 12th September 2008. The attendees were Mhairi McDonald, Susan Coulter, Suma, Mary Griffiths, Sarah Baldam. Mrs Susan Coulter, Team Leader for the Specialist Teaching Team, York City Council said the course was "an informative and fun way to gain thorough theoretical and practical knowledge on working with Moving and Handling Issues with pupils with special educational needs".
This week the 'Course of the Week' was a four day Handling People with Special Needs - V2 trainers course on behalf of Support for Living who work with adults with special needs in the South East of England. The course was held at the Disabled Living Foundation in London and ran from the 21st – 24th July 08.
Centaur Training consultant Pam Sherliker said "everyone on the course is enthusiastic and raring to get started with delivering courses".

Centaur Managing Director Mark Davidson dropped in on his way for a meeting with The Disabled Living Foundations Chief Executive and was “Press Ganged” ! which was then caught on camera.
This weeks 'Course of the Week' ran from the 14th to 16th July 08 and was held at Sue Ryder Care in Kinforth, Aberdeen. This course, (our second to be delivered here) took all six candidates through the Load Management Theory and Client Handling Technqiues Masterclass 'Train the Trainer' service. Delivered by Pam Sherliker, the course was a great success. Some of the candidates travelled many miles to attend. This weeks 'Course of the Week' took place from 14th to 18th July 08 at The National Centre for Young People with Epilepsy in Lingfield, Surrey. Centaur have worked very closley with NCYPE following on from the first course we delivered for them back in November 2001. The course has developed since but still revolves around our Handling People with Special Needs - Education programme. The three candidates who took part in this course were Lorraine Leverage, Susan Clarke and Laura Smith.

This weeks 'Course of the Week' took place over the 6th, 7th & 8th June and was held at The Nuffield Hospital, Guildford. This was the Perioperative Manaual Handling and Patient Postitioning Masterclass. It takes candidates through an intensive, practical based course. Attending the event we had Amanda Tudor from The Nuffield Hospital, Derby, Mohammed Haroon Khan from The Nuffield Hospital, Essex, Mandy Rye from The Nuffield Hospital, Tunbridge and Jacqueline Flanagan from The Nuffield Hospital, Guildford.
This was an extremly succesful course which was outlined by a number of the comments made by the participants such as, " totally enjoyed all three days, the information was up to date andrelevent to theatre. Excellent!" - Amanda.

This ‘Course of the Week’ took place at Holyport Manor School in Maidenhead. The course was the Handling People with Special Needs (Education) 5 day programme which took place from 9th – 13th June. Pictured from left to right we have Sharon Carrigan, Susan Keys & LisaTyson-Mays. Initially the group found the extent of the content held within the course daunting BUT…. the happy smiles in the picture demonstrate successful completion !
